Aerobics Champion & Personal Trainer

Erica Nix

Since 2010, Erica Nix has focused on building community and self love in the Austin LGBTQIA+ community as a Body Positive Ambassador, performance artist, personal trainer, and photographer.  Beginning with her quirky and crude aerobics class and starring in her own web series “Workout! with Erica Nix,” her mission has always been to bring self love and physical health to the queerdos and weirdos of the world.  A mission she learned as a child from Richard Simmons, and health activist that brought fitness to a dismissed community. Similarly, Nix hides under the guise of fun to bring love and wellness to people that feel outside of normative physical culture and deserve love.

My Private Dancers!

If you have been to any of my events, you know these babes.  I met most of them when they were baby queers, and now they are all grown up honey, putting their mamma to shame.

Personal Training

I am proud to announce that I was awarded Best Body Positive Ambassador in 2016 and Best Personal Trainer in 2017 & 2018, and Best Exercise Class of 2023 by the Austin Chronicle.  Honestly, the fact that I am a local “gaymous” fitness instructor still surprises me. My introduction into physical culture was a creative act of defiance against it. While suffering from internalized homophobia and body dysmorphia, I created a personality that would publicly “exercise” those demons out of me. It was Performance Art.

Long story short, that character traveled from public space, to a web series, to art galleries, to professional aerobics classes and finally into ACC’s program for personal training. If you want to hear the long story, read this great article by Brently Heilbron in culturemap.

These days I am only taking a few clients. I am the perfect trainer for any beginner struggling to feel comfortable in “regular gyms.”
